Bhubaneswar: Bowing to the request of the Odisha government, the Centre today raised the monthly rice quota for Odisha with retrospective effect from May, 2016.

This was informed by the Union minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan in a letter to him, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas minister Dharmendra Pradhan told media persons today.

In his letter, Paswan said the allocation of rice and wheat ratio has been revised from 78.81: 21.18 to 85.47: 14.53 as demanded by the state government with effect from May this year.

“Earlier Odisha was being allocated 1,33,972 tonnes of rice and 35,978 tonnes of wheat per month in the ratio of 78.81:21.18 which has now been revised to 1,45,859 tonnes of rice and 24,800 tonnes of wheat in the ratio of 85.47: 14.53,” Pswan said in the letter.
