Bhubaneswar: Following a fresh hike in the price of diesel, the Odisha government on Saturday increased the bus fare as per automatic fare adjustment mechanism.

As per a notification issued by the Commerce and Transport department, the fare for ordinary and express buses has been increased by 1 paisa per kilometre, while the fare for Deluxe and AC Deluxe category buses has been increased by 2 paise per kilometre.

With this hike coming into effect, the fare of ordinary buses will now be 57 paise per km as against 56 paise per km while the fare of express buses has been increased to 60 paise from 59 paise per km.

Similarly, deluxe category buses will now charge 78 paise per km as against 76 paise earlier and for AC Deluxe buses, commuters have to fork out 97 paise instead of the current 95 paise per km, the notification added.

The increase in the bus fare has been done for the second time in March this year. Earlier, the fare was hiked on March 10.

Notably, the oil marketing companies had increased the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 3.07 and Rs 1.90 respectively on March 17.
