Mumbai: Actor Emraan Hashmi, who plays a small-town street smart guy and has tested with his looks in his soon-to-be-released film `Shanghai`, says he was waiting for a makeover.

In Dibakar Banerjee`s political thriller `Shanghai`, Emraan is seen sporting a paunch, buck tooth and looks a bit dark in complexion. "There were lots of test looks for this character. We wanted a transformation in terms of looks. There was a long trial and error process. But eventually one look emerged and for that I had to gain 9 to 10 kg weight, had to go few darker shades," Emraan told reporters here, on Sunday night at the music launch of the film.

"You haven`t seen this kind of teeth in my any other film. This is a complete makeover. And I would want to do it...I don`t know how many actors would like to look this on screen, but I found this opportunity appealing," he said.

It was the director Dibakar Banerjee, who conceived this look for Emraan. "Dibakar has really changed and given me the kind of makeover that I wanted for a long time and through Jogi Parmar I got this opportunity. His physicality is like weird looking but he has heart of gold and is endearing, he is very rooted, relatable and people will love him. I like to believe that he has got this raw sexuality about him," Emraan said.

The actor also clarified that his role in `Shanghai` bears no resemblance to the character he played in `Kalyug`. "No, this character is not similar to that in `Kalyug`. The character trait is not similar. This guy in `Shanghai` does multi-tasking, he is a small-town journalist, model co-ordinator, shoots videos for marriages and something else also, which I can`t talk in front of children. It is a multi-tasking character and it is very much different from `Kalyug`," Emraan said. The film also features Abhay Deol, Kalki Koechlin and is slated for a release on June 8.
