Peshawar: US drones targeted a militant compound in northwest Pakistan`s restive North Waziristan tribal region today, killing at least six Taliban fighters, officials said.

The Predator spy planes fired four missiles at the militant compound in Mir Ali town near Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan tribal agency, they said.

Six Taliban militants were killed in the attack. Several others were also injured, the officials said

Some foreign militants were believed to be among the dead.

The region targeted by the US drones is considered a hub of al-Qaeda and Taliban operatives.
