ISLAMABAD: Hundreds of activists of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf on Sunday afternoon staged a protest rally against handing over the killers of Ebadur Rehman to the US and possible diplomatic immunity to Raymond Davis.

The rally started from the Blue Area and concluded at the Super Market, where speakers criticised the federal government and the Punjab government for being apologetic to the US administration on the issue of Raymond Davis.

The participants, who included a large number of female activists of PTI, chanted slogans against President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and the Punjab government of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

“Why and how the government of Punjab silently let the killers of Ebadur Rehman leave Pakistan and go back to the United States. The Punjab rulers must explain why they did so,” asserted PTI local office-bearer Amir Mughal while speaking on the occasion.

Mughal alleged that the government avoided the arrest of the killers of Ebadur Rehman because they were afraid of the Obama administration. He contended that the rulers would have to face the wrath of masses, if they let Raymond Davis go back unpunished.

The PTI North Punjab Chief Organiser Sadaqat Ali Abbasi regretted that Raymond Davis was being given VIP protocol in captivity and alleged this was just because the rulers of Punjab did not want to displease the American government.

“If the rulers tried to save Davis from being put to gallows, they would not be spared by the public, who wanted justice to the aggrieved nation, particularly the families of the slain youth,” he maintained.
