In a surprising turn of events ahead of the general elections, Bharatiya Janata Party MP and Former Cricketer Gautam Gambhir has asked BJP Chief JP Nadda to relieve him of his political duties. Gambhir who represents East Delhi took to social media to announce that he has decided to step away from active politics. He said he has requested Party President JP Nadda to relieve me of his political duties so that he can focus on his upcoming cricket commitments. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving him the opportunity to serve the people. The former Indian cricketer had joined the BJP in March 2019 and since then had been a prominent face in Delhi Politics. He contested and won the East Delhi seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by a substantial margin of 6,95,109 votes. On Gambhir’s current cricket career, it is pertinent to mention that he made the decision ahead of the Indian Premier League 2024 and just days ahead of his return with KKR as their new mentor. Prior to this, he was with the Lucknow Super Giants as the mentor in 2022 and 2023 seasons.
