At least 288 people died and over 900 were left injured after Chennai-bound Coromandel Express and Howrah bound SMVP-Howrah Superfast Express were involved in the major accident near the Bahanaga Bazar railway station in Odisha's Balasore on Friday evening.
According to a bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department, Sambalpur emerged as the hottest place in the State with mercury reaching up to 44.2 degrees Celsius today.
"In view of the unfortunate accident in Odisha, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has advised all airlines to monitor any abnormal surge in airfares to and from Bhubaneswar and other airports of the State and take necessary action regarding the same," it said in a statement.
The 40,000 sq ft Expo Hall of the NOCCI has been converted into a mortuary where unidentified bodies will be stored, the official said.
