Greece is one of the European Union (EU) member states with the highest proportion of children living in poverty, with 31.5 per cent of minors affected, compared to 24.2 per cent on average in the EU, according to Eurostat data for 2020 released late October this year.
Unicef said 426 million children globally, or nearly one in five, live in conflict zones which are becoming more intense, with women and girls at the highest risk of conflict-related sexual violence.
The appeal includes 2 billion dollars for UNICEF's response in Afghanistan, where 13 million children need urgent humanitarian assistance.
Despite some progress in the fight against HIV and AIDS, children and adolescents continued to be left behind across all regions over the past decade, the report said.
The official also said that the education gains of the past two decades must be strengthened, not rolled back.
