The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday struck down all petitions seeking celebrations of Rath Yatra in other parts of Odisha this year as the State battles the second wave of the Covid pandemic.

As a precautionary measure to break the Covid-19 chain, the Indian Railways has decided to restrict the train movements to Puri during the upcoming RathYatra festival.

The testing will be done at four stages --before Snana Yatra, before Gundicha Yatra, before Bahuda Yatra and lastly, 15 days after Niladri Bije.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has planned for a illumination project to enhance the beauty of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri even more. A technical team of the ASI on Tuesday toured the Srimandir and reviewed the detail arrangements for installing better light system in and around the main temple.

In the wake of the second wave of the Covid-19, Odisha government on Thursday decided to ban the much-awaited annual RathYatra festival dedicated to Lord Jagannath at all places in the State except Puri, the prime abode of the Lord.

Several servitors engaged in the construction of chariots for the world-famous Rath Yatra in the pilgrim town have tested positive for Covid-19 triggering anxiety among the carpenter community over the smooth conduct of the Rath carving works.
