In order to alleviate the plight of devotees who wait on queues for hours in the open to have darshan of Lord Jagannath, the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) had installed an air conditioned tunnel near the Singhadwara.
Mahari dance will be organised every evening while Vedic mantras will be chanted near the Singhadwar every morning from 6 am to 7 am. Then ‘Nama Sankirtan’ will be orgnaised on Srimandir Parikrama Marg.
The first meeting of the high-level committee formed by the Odisha government to supervise the process of inventory of valuables in the Ratna Bhandar (treasure trove) of Lord Jagannath Temple was held in Puri on Saturday. It was chaired by retired Supreme Court judge, Justice Arijit Pasayat at the office of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).
Puri Srimandir management is once again in the news after alleged entry of some non-Hindus into the shrine on Sunday. At least four non-Hindus and that too from neighbouring Bangladesh entered Srimandir in Puri.
While the video fetched a huge number of likes and views on the youth’s social media handle, a complaint has been filed at Singhadwar Police Station in this regard.

To ensure proper darshan of devotees, the Srimandir Temple Administration has taken necessary precautionary measures.
As per the tradition, five special attires of Lord Jagannath take place in Puri during this period.
Bijay Patnaik, said, “The Congress is demanding the reopening of all gates of Puri Srimandir which is also the demand of scores of people and devotees. However, keeping the gates closed for some vested interest contractors is condemnable.”
As for the dress code, Biranchinaryan Pati, secretary of Brahman Niyog, supported the move saying that the dress code should be implemented not only for the Puri temple but also for other shrines across the state.
Similarly, 395.252 acres of land in six other states were identified in the name of Lord Jagannath, Saraka said.
The matter came to light after the Jagannath Temple Police (JTP) personnel recovered an empty donation box from the backside of Nrusingha temple. The JTP has handed over the donation box to Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).
One more gate of Puri Jagannath Temple will reopen from July 24. The Paschim Dwara of the 12th century shrine will be opened for residents of Puri. Sub Collector of Puri, Bhabatarana Sahoo informed about the development saying that residents of Puri can enter the shrine by showing their identity proof.
It is pertinent to mention here that at present devotees are only allowed inside Puri Jagannath Temple through the gate near Singhadwara. As a result, there is usually a huge rush and devotees have to wait for long hours to gain entry into the shrine.
While Lord Balabhadra will be adorned with ‘Nila Chita’, Lord Jagannath and Devi Subhadra will be decked up in diamond Chita and ‘Manikya Chita’ respectively.
