With the onset of the peak tourism season, Odisha’s pilgrim and beach city Puri is gearing up to welcome lakhs of domestic and international tourists.
As December–January typically witnesses the highest footfall, preparations across hotels, beaches and key tourist zones have intensified.
Hotels & Tourism Stakeholders Step Up Readiness
From hotels to the award-winning Blue Flag Beach, the city is putting all systems in place to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for visitors.
Members of the Puri Hotel Association have urged the district administration to prioritise city cleanliness, maintain hygiene on the beaches, and streamline darshan arrangements at the Lord Jagannath Temple.
Tour operators and hoteliers say that this year, the number of bookings from foreign tourists has increased significantly. They also highlighted the need to boost Satapada tourism, including the development of dolphin shows to attract more visitors.

Blue Flag Beach Retains International Certification
To enhance coastal tourism of Odisha, the Puri Blue Flag Beach has successfully retained its prestigious Blue Flag certification for 2025–26, awarded by the Denmark-based Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
This marks the seventh consecutive year the beach has received the honour.
The beach will offer visitors a range of safe and eco-friendly amenities, including:
-Clean, safe bathing zones
-Adventure and recreational activities
-Dedicated changing rooms
-Pure drinking water facilities
-Modern toilets
-Cafés and food kiosks
-In-house waste treatment plant
Blue Flag Beach manager Rakesh Dash confirmed that continuous monitoring and maintenance are underway to uphold international standards.

Security, Traffic & Visitor Safety Enhanced
Tourist safety remains a top priority this season. Puri SP Prateek Singh said that additional measures will be implemented to ensure smooth crowd movement, especially around the Srimandir, beaches and major tourism hubs.
“No one will be allowed to harass tourists. Strict action will be taken against any transport operators, bus staff, or hotel personnel involved in such behaviour. All police officials have been clearly instructed to ensure this,” said Puri SP Prateek Singh.
City Braces for a Festive Tourism Boom
From maintaining clean beaches to upgrading amenities and doubling down on security arrangements, Puri is preparing for a vibrant tourism season.
With better infrastructure, improved services and growing international interest, the city aims to offer a memorable experience to lakhs of visitors.
