Earlier on Monday, the Prime Minister had initiated the discussions at 11:20 a.m., after which several MPs shared their experiences of the old Parliament building for the next seven hours.

The Prime Minister recalled that right from first PM Jawaharlal Nehru's iconic "Tryst with Destiny" speech, which he delivered on the eve of Independence in the Central Hall, to Manmohan Singh, Parliament has seen the contributions of 14 Prime Ministers.

Recalling his first day in Parliament in 2014, the Prime Minister said, “First time when I entered the Parliament as an MP, I bowed my head down and it was an emotional moment.”

There is an atmosphere of festivity and enthusiasm, and the country has been filled with renewed self-confidence, he said, asking parliamentarians to give maximum time to the short session.

According to official sources, the special session, which also includes consideration and possible passage of four bills, will continue till September 22 and is likely to be held in the new Parliament building.

According to government sources, for the special Parliament session, rehearsal was done for one day in the old building and two days in the new building. 

The special session of Parliament called by the Centre to commemorate the 'Amrit Kaal' has once again raised the hopes of supporters of women's reservation.

The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, 2023 will replace the Indian Penal Code; the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita Bill, 2023 will replace the Criminal Procedure Code, 1898 and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872 will be replaced by the Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had informed the House on Wednesday that the prime minister will reply to the motion on August 10.
