A total of 107 NACs/Municipalities and three Municipal Corporations- BMC, CMC and BeMC- will go to poll to elect chairpersons, councillors, mayors and corporators.
The Odisha government has come under intense criticism from the Opposition unit for deciding not to add new voters while revising the electoral rolls for the forthcoming elections to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the State.
As 107 municipalities and notified area councils (NACs), besides Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Berhampur municipal corporations are likely to go for polls by the end of April or beginning of May, the State government is working overtime complete the necessary exercises, like Ward delimitations.
As Odisha heads towards the Panchayat polls early next year, the elections for the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) including three Municipal Corporations and 107 Municipalities will be held after that.
The Odisha Municipal Rules (Amendment) Bill 2021 was tabled in the State Assembly on Monday. The introduction of the bill comes at a time when the elections are scheduled to be held next year.
