The differences between the new emblem and the original Lion Capital of Ashoka at Sarnath are very much visible, said Rajmohan Gandhi, a historian currently teaching at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
As the politics over the newly unveiled cast of the 'National Emblem' on the roof of the new parliament building escalate, the government said that it is an adaptation from the Sarnath Lion Capital of Emperor Ashoka, which is preserved in the Sarnath Museum.
Officials said the emblem is made up of bronze with a total weight of 9,500 kg and is 6.5 metre in height.
