The news of over 43,000 students being absent from appearing for Matric examination recently caught headlines and created ripples across the State. 

The absenteeism of thousands of candidates from the annual HSC exam this year is definitely a matter of concern, the Odisha government said on Monday while directing education officers at the district level to find out the reason behind the matter.

However, as the confusion still looms over why the students didn’t appear for the exams, a probe has been ordered to find out the reason, the Minister added.

State School and Mass Education Department secretary Bishnupada Sethi yesterday attributed the absenteeism of students to various reasons.
