The US has avoided imposing sanctions on energy purchases to accommodate its European allies who rely heavily on Russia.

India abstained in the UN General Assembly on a vote moved by the US to suspend Russia from the UN Human Rights Council over allegations that Russian soldiers killed civilians while retreating from towns near the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.

"If India has chosen a side, it is a side of peace and it is for an immediate end to violence. This is our principled stand and has consistently guided our position in international forums and debates, including in the UN," Jaishankar said.

As two thriving democracies and as two economic giants, India and the Netherlands are natural partners. We share a common outlook of multilateral solutions to global challenges, Kovind said.

Beijing based Global times said that New Delhi's insistence of maintaining strategic autonomy has put India in a "comfortable" situation.

During his meeting today with the President of Turkmenistan Berdimuhamedov, President Kovind held a detailed discussion on the state and prospects of bilateral relations and also exchanged views on various regional and international issues of importance.

To another question on whether having a rouble-rupee payment system was discussed in the talks, Lavrov said such an arrangement was started for trade with countries like India and China many years ago and efforts to bypass the western payment systems will now be intensified.

Monday's summit follows the historic first virtual summit between Modi and Morrison in June 2020, when the India-Australia relationship was elevated to a 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership'.

The Japanese Prime Minister further stated that the world has been shaken today due to many disturbances, it's very important for India and Japan to have a close partnership.

Modi has spoken to both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and urged them to hold direct talks.
