Out of Rs 1,65,105 crore GST collections for July, CGST was Rs 29,773 crore, SGST was Rs 37,623 crore, IGST was Rs 85,930 crore (including Rs 41,239 crore collected on import of goods) and cess stood at Rs 11,779 crore (including Rs 840 crore collected on import of goods).

As per Finance Ministry data, in 2020-21, as many as 12,596 cases of GST evasion were detected, while in 2022-23, the cases rose by 23.5 per cent to 15,562.

Addressing a press conference after the marathon eight-hours-long meeting, Sitharaman said that tax exemption has also been extended to satellite launch services provided by private parties.

February's GST collections were marginally higher than December 2022 collections, which were Rs 1,49,507 crore.

The government has settled Rs 38,507 crore towards CGST and Rs 32,624 crore towards SGST from IGST as regular settlement.

The Council also clarified on the definition of SUVs (sports utility vehicles) for the levy of 22 per cent compensation cess over the 28 per cent GST and decided to come out with parameters to define MUVs (multi utility vehicles).

The total amount of compensation released to the states so far, including the aforesaid amount, during 2022-23 is Rs 1,15,662 crore, official sources said.
