Panic gripped the residents of low-lying areas in Balasore district after Jalaka River breached the danger mark. Villagers fear yet another flood as the river has swelled above 6.29 metre against the danger mark of 5.50 metre.
Addressing a presser here in Bhubaneswar, Jena said three blocks of Balasore received more than 200mm rainfall with Bhograi receiving highest 226mm rainfall. Similarly, 16 blocks of Mayurbhanj district received more than 100mm rainfall followed by 100-50mm rainfall in five blocks of Keonjhar district.
The officials have been asked to monitor possible flood situation in critical districts, and in case of problems, they will discuss with district Collectors and take necessary steps. Here’s what the Engineer-in-chief of Water Resources Dept said on the current situation in Odisha.
