The fire mishap caused panic as the surrounding area was completely engulfed in thick, billowing smoke, from the burning medicines and other materials, intensifying the impact of the inferno.

As it was their first priority to rescue the trapped persons, the firefighters took the trapped persons out of the spa to another building through a ladder. 

The coal-laden goods train was on its way to Khordha from Talcher. The freight train had arrived at the Radhakishorepur station at 8 pm yesterday.

As per initial reports, the Mo Bus caught fire near TCI Square due to some technical glitch. After noticing the smoke, all the passengers got down from the bus. A major tragedy was averted as all the passengers got down from the bus which was completely gutted within minutes.

Though there has been no loss of life, several properties inside the storeroom have been gutted in the fire mishap.

The firecrackers were manufactured illegally in the quarters, sources informed, adding that the quarters was alloted to one Niranjan Lenka, who is posted at State secretariat.

Thatched houses and haystacks catching fire on their own have left even the firefighters in a dilemma. 

Meanwhile, shop owners and locals expressed outrage over the engagement of only one fire brigade team to douse the massive blaze.

The mishap occurred at one Sheikh Bhallu’s house. The cylinder caught fire when his wife was cooking food in the evening. 

According to a witness, the fire started at around 7.30 pm in the complex that houses several offices.

In a letter to the Tehsildar, the temple administration has urged to carry out an eviction drive on the land owned by the Holy Trinity. Besides, the SJTA has requested the Tehsildar to probe the possession of 3.5 decimal land of the temple by a private person.

Though it is unclear from where the elephant has come from, it is believed that the pachyderm might have strayed into the city from nearby Chandaka forest. 

Meanwhile, a panel under the chairmanship of Puri Sub-Collector has been formed to ascertain the cause of the massive blaze and assess losses caused by the fire in the market complex.

The fire broke out at Odisha Handloom showroom in Niladri complex, which is just 50 metres away from Laxmi market complex that saw a massive fire just three days ago.

The committee headed by Puri sub-collector will also comprise the local tehsildar, Town Police IIC and Fire Officer.
