Amid impending 'Cyclone Tauktae ' three fishermen were stuck in a distressed fishing boat off Kerala's Kannur. However, in a midnight rescue operation, the fishermen were rescued by Indian Coast Guard ship Vikram.
With the cyclonic storm 'Tauktae' very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and subsequently into a very severe cyclonic storm by Sunday morning, rescue and relief operations have been intensified. As many as 5 NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams from 3rd battalion Munduli in Odisha proceeded to Gujarat on Saturday for emergency rescue and relief works in the wake of Cyclone Tauktae. The teams left for Rajkot in a special IAF aircraft and will be deployed at coastal areas like Dwarka and Porbandar. The cyclonic storm is expected to move north-northwestwards and cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Naliya on May 18th.
The IMD has already put Mumbai and Thane under a Yellow Alert, signifying isolated heavy rains accompanies by strong winds, while an Orange Alert and Red Alert has been issued for several districts of Gujarat and Kerala.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has announced that the state administration is on alert and fully prepared if the possible cyclone Tauktae hits the state.
