Unknown about the danger in store for him, Babrubahan Bhuyan, a resident of Nimapur village, entered the water and experienced the shock of his lifetime.
“Mere recalling of the most horrific moment of my life makes my hair stand on end. It was Monday (May 30). I along with ten of my friends was enjoying a bath in Kani river. Like any other day, we were bathing in circle near the bank. Suddenly, I felt someone was pulling my right leg," recounted Om.
As per reports, Om Prakash was bathing with his friends in Kani river near his village when a giant 10-ft long salt water crocodile pulled him into the river. However, the 14-year-old lad did not give up and fought off the reptile to emerge victorious after a 10 minute battle in the river.
Though the State Government offers compensation of Rs 4 lakh for death in crocodile attack while Rs 1 lakh for people who sustained grievous injuries in the attack, locals have however alleged that the forest department is not giving any compensation if the attack happens inside the territories of the Bhitarkanika National Park.
As per sources, some locals of the village were surprised to find the massive reptile in a pond while taking bath. The panicked residents immediately sought the help of the Forest department for capturing the croc.
In a shocking incident, a youth went missing after he was reportedly dragged by a crocodile into the river. The incident was reported from Pattamundai area of Kendrapara and the victim has been missing since Friday.
