Woman dies of crocodile attack

Pattamundai: A 60-year-old woman of Balarampur village under Kandira panchayat in Rajnagar block of Kendrapara district was killed after being dragged by a crocodile into the Patasala river this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Chhayarani Bag.

The incident took place at about 8 AM, eyewitnesses said.

Talking to media persons, Shitikanta Kanungo, IIC of Rajnagar police station, said the deceased was grazing cows on the river bank when she was attacked by a crocodile, which dragged her into the river.

“After reaching the river bank, we found two crocodiles in the river. During the search, we found a severed hand and the saree of the deceased. We have sent the severed hand for post mortem,” the IIC said, adding that a case of unnatural death had been registered in this connection.
