The Ministry of Health continues to provide technical guidance for managing various aspects of COVID-19 including containment and surveillance, testing, clinical management protocols, post-COVID sequale, etc., the minister said.
Even amid the emergence of new variants like Omircron, vaccination remains one of the strongest pillars of protection against disease and infection, according to experts.
Also, the government said four more countries are being added to the travel ban red list from 4 AM on Sunday: Angola, Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia. This adds to the six countries on the ban list since Friday South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The seven countries, namely Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe, are selected based on detection of cases of the new variant or geographical proximity to those countries where cases have been detected, the government said in a statement.
As of Thursday morning, the global coronavirus caseload, death toll and vaccination tally stood at 204,626,055, 4,323,778 and 4,527,816,903, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
