Around 10 lakh people are expected to gather for the festival in the temple town from across the country, and some foreign nations, Director of Health Service Bijay Mohapatra said.

As per the centuries-old tradition, as many as 865 trunks of Phasi, Asan and Dhaura trees are required for chariot construction every year.

Understanding the sentiments of the public to carry on the ancient ritual, we have decided to permit this year's Rath Yatra in a limited fashion.

"I think that the government will allow the Yatra this year as cinema halls, multiplexes, malls and other commercial activities were allowed, so why not the 'Rath Yatra'?" asked the Mahant.
