Coimbatore: A two-day National Conference on 'Biodiversity and Eco-tourism' would be held on January seven here to provide platform for identification and preservation of biodiversity.

This inter-disciplinary conference is aimed at creating environmental harmony among the youth and provide financial benefits and empowerment for locals, Sheela Ramachandran, Vice-Chancellor, Avinashilingam Deemed Unviersity, told reporters today.

Over 50 senior delegates from various parts of the country--Delhi, Gwalior, Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur, Bangalore, Kerala and Puducherry--would participate and discuss the role of tourism in biodiversity conservation, she said.

Moreover, there was the dire need to conserve India's rare species and water bodies, which were already on the path of destruction, Sheela said.
