Bhubaneswar: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued heavy rainfall alert for several parts of Odisha, especially coastal districts. As per the latest forecast, heavy rainfall is likely to occur in several parts of Puri, Cuttack, Khurda, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Jagatsinghpur districts on February 25.

Gauranga Charan Behera, duty officer at Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, informed that apart from heavy rainfall, thunderstorm and lightning warning has also been issued for these districts.

“Under the influence of a passage of a western disturbance and low level south-easterly/ easterly wind flow and strong moisture convergence, a wet spell with thunderstorm activity is likely to occur in several districts of Odisha from today,” said Behera.

Behera further informed that several districts of Odisha will experience a wet spell with thunderstorm activity for a period of three days from today.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely at isolated places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sundrgarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj today while no rainfall alert has been issued for the remaining parts of the State.

Similarly, light to moderate rain or thundershower activity will be witnessed at several places in north interior Odisha and a few places of north coastal Odisha including Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh between February 24 and 25.

Yellow warning has been issued for Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Angul and Dhenkanal (February 24 to February 25) as there is a chance of thunderstorm with lightning in these districts.
