Berhampur: Villagers of Phasipada in Ganjam district today demanded Rs 5 lakh compensation each to the next of kin of two persons who were killed in police firing on Saturday. They also sought government job to at least one family member of the each deceased, official sources said.

The villagers put up these demands while the district administration held a peace meeting in the clash-hit village, where at least two persons died in police firing and several others injured. The government has already provided Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of the each deceased. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik has also ordered a judiciary inquiry into the incident.
