Balasore: Resentment is growing among the residents of Balasore town over frequent unscheduled power cuts and low voltages. However, authorities of the Electricity department have ruled out power outage allegations.

According to reports, unscheduled power cuts have made people’s lives miserable in the town. Fluctuation in voltage has compounded their miseries.

Questions are now being raised over undeclared power cuts across the town not only for a day or two, but for several months altogether.

"The undeclared power cut for several hours is affecting our studies," said Gitanjali Das, a student.

“Had the power cut been carried out with prior notice, we could have got time to make necessary arrangements accordingly. Moreover, low-voltage is adding to our woes during the time of electric supply,” said a local resident of Balasore.

Meanwhile, consumers alleged that despite depositing electric bills on time, there are frequent power cuts in the region. Perturbed over the frequent power outages, local residents have threatened to stage protest if such problems persist.

“We are depositing the electric bills on time, but are unable to consume adequate electricity. If the situation does not improve in coming days, we will stage an agitation against the Electricity department," said another resident of the town.

However, authorities of the department refuted the charges and claimed that the power outages are mostly due to maintenance and restoration work.

“Power cuts are mostly occurring due to some maintenance and restoration work. When there is a short supply in electricity, consumers could not get adequate power,” said Brajasundar Parida, Superintending Engineer of Balasore.
