Berhampur: At least two persons were injured as unidentified persons hurled bombs and opened fire at the sub-divisional headquarters town of Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district, police said.

The incident took place last night when four motorcycle-borne persons hurled at least four crude bombs in a hotel and then opened fire targeting a bus owner near the bus-stand in the town, police said. The injured persons were admitted at the sub-divisional hospital at Bhanjanagar. Their condition was stated to be out of danger, sources said. The Bhanjanagar violence took place barely some hours after a similar incident at Berhampur town where two-motorcycle borne miscreants opened fire at a driver near Ganesh temple at Hillpatna under Goshaninuagaon police station here. The miscreants opened fire on the driver as he protested them snatching gold chair from a woman.

In Bhanjanagar, police however said the incident was the fallout of the previous enmity between two groups in the town. We have identified the culprits. They are however yet to be nabbed, said inspector in-charge (Bhanajanagar) R C Thumb.
