Bolangir: One of the main accused in the Belpada triple-murder case, Bikash Meher, has been able to get bail from the court on Tuesday, thanks to the inability of the police to file the chargesheet in the stipulated period of 120 days.

The police had arrested Jogeswar Meher and his son Bikash within 48 hours of the gruesome killings.

The father-son duo had decamped with gold ornaments worth lakhs after committing the triple murder in Belpada on October 27, 2011. The irate public had gheraoed the police station demanding immediate action against the killers.

Jogeswar and Bikash were booked with the assistance of sniffer dogs and scientific team and remanded to judicial custody within 48 hours.

However, the police failed to submit a chargesheet in the case within the stipulated time frame of 120 days. In fact, 126 days have lapsed since the crime took place.

Bikash Meher has been granted bail by the court. The failure of the police to file the chargesheet has raised several questions.
