Thunderstorm causes damages in coastal districts

Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: One person died in Mahanga near Cuttack while several persons including domestic animals were injured at Athgarh as lightning struck on Tuesday. According to reports, two houses were gutted and one domestic animal died due to lightening in Konark

Parts of several coastal districts and towns and cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Balasore, Bhadrakh, Khurda, Paradip and Dhenkanal were also severely affected due to the thunderstorm accompanied by wind of speed of 50-60 kilometre per hour.

Power supply was badly hampered for several hours in most of the affected areas. The thunderstorm caused large-scale damages, uprooting trees, electric poles, hoardings and billboards  and also caused heavy damages to houses. People living in the low lying areas especially in Cuttack city faced problems due to waterlogging. Vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt on National Highway-5 following the damage caused to the roadside trees and electric poles.
