Bhubaneswar: Peeved over the forcible demolition of betel vines some people, who mostly belong to Posco Pratirodha Sangram Samiti demonstrated their protest against the alleged forcible land acquisition for the Posco project.
Tension prevailed at Noliasahi as the protesters alleged the district administration has already demolished the betel vines without the consent of the beneficiaries.
The police have arrested the protesters,which included four women, eight men and five children. The administration has deployed five platoons of police personnel to avoid any untoward incident.
The administration on Friday had sent four teams for the land acquisition process at Nuagaon, Polang and Noliasahi.
Meanwhile, the district administration has demolished 450 betel vines and disbursed a compensation of Rs 5 crore to the beneficiaries.
