Bhubaneswar: There is no flood-like situation in Mahanadi and the water discharge at Mundali has reduced, informed Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi today.

"Currently, less than 4.5 lakh cusec of water is being discharged. The water level in Baitarani has also come down so there is no chance of flood," Sethi said.

"Rainfall in last 24 hours is negligible as many districts have recorded nil rainfall. In Munduli, the water level at its peak at 7.5 lakh cusec has now come down to less than 4.5 lakh cusec. Most of the districts which were earlier alerted for possible flood are now safe.  Water level in Baitarani has also receded from the danger level," Sethi added.

Earlier today, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik visited Sambalpur to take a stock of the flood situation and review rainfall in 10 districts under the Northern Division

The meeting chaired by the CM was attended by the MLAs of Sambalpur and Rengali, Revenue Divisional Commissioner, Collector and Superintendent of Police. Patnaik is scheduled to visit Boudh and Sonepur later in the day where he would take part in a tree planting program under the Green Mahanadi Abhiyaan.
