Same-sex couple in Odisha threatens to commit suicide

Kendrapara: A day after reports of two girls tying nuptial knot in Kendrapara stoked a major controversy, the couple today said they are adults and have got married as per the Supreme Court guidelines. During a counseling session in presence of police and family members, the couple threatened that they would commit suicide if attempts are made to separate them.

“We love each other and got married in court. When the SC has given its verdict and we are adults, no one can stop us from living together. Let us live in peace,” said Sabitree Parida, one of the girls.

Commenting on the matter, SDPO of Pattamundai, Ranjan Dey informed that “Family members of one of the girls from Pattamundai had lodged a police complaint that a girl of Mahakalapada has abducted their daughter and they apprehended that their girl is being engaged in prostitution.”

According to sources, a case has been registered and probe is underway. The couple appeared before the police today and submitted an affidavit saying they will live together and have tied nuptial knot. They will be produced before the magistrate, the SDPO stated.
