Sambalpur: The Sambalpur district administration has geared up to for Sital Sasthi starting from June 7. A preparatory meeting chaired by Sambalpur Collector Subham Saxena was held on Sunday to review and chalk out strategies for the smooth conduct of the mega event.

Several Yatra Committees stressed on urgent repair of roads, arrangements for drinking water and street lights, cleanliness drive along Mahanadi ghat and closure of liquor shops ahead of the festival in Sambalpur.

“Keeping in view the huge inflow of devotees, we have urged the district administration to focus on overall sanitation and installation of mobile toilet facilities at different places during the festival," said Sameer Ranjan Babu, president of the Nandapada Sital Sasthi Yatra Committee.

Echoing similar views, Jhaduapada Sital Sasthi Yatra Committee president Saroj Dalapati said, “Cleanliness during the festival is the main issue. Road repairs and liquor sale were other issues which were discussed during the meeting.

Meanwhile, the district administration has sought cooperation from all the stakeholders and local residents for smooth conduct of all the rituals during the Sital Sasthi.

“Action will be taken against illicit liquor sale and anti-social elements. Four special squads will be engaged for patrolling to maintain law and order during the Sital Sasthi Yatra,” said Sambalpur Additional SP Amarendra Rana.

"Arrangements for the yatra were discussed in detail during the meeting and the smooth conduct of the festival will be ensured," said Collector Shubham Saxsena.

The ‘Thala Utha’ rituals were held at different Shiva temples of Sambalpur town and the divine marriage of Lord Shiva and Parvati will be held on June 7. The ‘Jugal Darshan’ procession of the deities will be organised on June 8.
