Jagatsinghpur: The ongoing infighting and rift within the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) came to fore during party’s Mahila Morcha’s convention at Kujang here today.

According to reports, a scuffle broke out between the supporters of Jagatsinghpur district president Bishnu Das and Tirtol MLA Rajashree Mallick near Tarpur bypass road.

Trouble erupted after supporters of Das allegedly raised slogans against Tritol legislator which was vehemently opposed by the supporters of the latter.

The incident occurred when Rajashree Mallick along with district observers –Miniter Prafulla Samal and Pratap Jena and other leaders were on their way to attend the Mahila Samavesh at Kujang.

The supporters of Das allegedly raised slogans against Tritol MLA which sparked tension in the region. Later, Raghunathpur police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

“Some vested interest people are trying to create unrest in the area. But such incidents will not have any impact on the party,” said Tirtol MLA, Rajashree Mallick.

However, Jagatsinghpur district BJD president Bishnu Das could not be contacted over the incident.
