Bhubaneswar: Despite heavy showers in the coastal and central parts of the state in past 12 hours, rain deficit has hit as many as eight districts, according to the local meteorological department. While the situation is grim in four districts including Balasore, Debgarh, Bhadrak and Jagatsinghpur, Balasore witnessed the lowest rainfall among these with 43% below normal rain. 

The figures of Debgarh, Bhadrak and Jagatsinghpur districts stand at 40, 34, 30 per cent respectively.  According to figures with the meteorological department Kendrapada, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj and Gajapati districts have also experienced below normal rainfall in this season.

In the past 24 hours Puri recorded the highest 85 mm rainfall, while Jajpur, Astaranga, Kendrapada and Balipatna have recorded 52, 56, 57 and 40 mm respectively. The weathermen forecast isolated showers may continue in different parts of the state due to cyclonic storm in North Bay of Bengal and Gangetic plain.
