Kendrapara: In a move said to be first of its kind in the district, Odisha Police confiscated movable properties of fugitives who were facing trial in a murder case that occurred last year.

Responding to a direction by the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM), Kendrapara, the police who had earlier failed to nab assailants since the murder on July, 2, 2011, made the confiscation of movable articles at Godhan village under Patkura police station jurisdiction.

"We confiscated movable articles strictly in accordance with court ruling. Unless the accused persons surrender and appear before the court to face trial within a fortnight, the immovable assets of the culprits would also attached," said Nrusingha Charan Swain, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Kendrapara, today.

The fugitives whose movable assets were confiscated were Ajay Rout, Biswanath Rout, Prahalad Rout, Ramesh Rout, Dhruba Charan Rout, Kailash Rout, Gagan Rout, Dilip Rout and Murali Rout, police said. On July 2 last, one Akshyaya Rout of Godhan village was hacked to death as the victim had raised official complaint against the accused persons for their alleged involvement in unlawful sand-lifting activities.
