In an audacious act, two bike-borne miscreants allegedly snatched a bag containing Rs 5.5 lakh from a woman in broad daylight right in front of Pipili Police Station.

Senior health officials on Monday informed that surveillance has already been intensified with preventive measures being taken to prevent the outbreak in other parts.

As many as 20,000 chickens from 43 farms in Pipili will be culled amid the bird flu scare in Odisha. A 12-member team has been formed to prevent the virus spread. Farmers demand adequate compensation before the mass culling, with officials assuring compliance with government guidelines.

A few days earlier, a similar incident was reported from Kanasa in which idols were stolen from Baidyanath temple in Baidyanathpur and Gopinath temple in Samsherpur.

The high-voltage by-election to the Assembly Constituency in Odisha's Puri district was was held on September 30. A voter turnout of 78 per cent was recorded at 348 booths in the by-election, official sources said.

The Superintendent Of Police (SP), Puri, KB Singh said that a three-tier security cover has been arranged at the strong room. 

The polling process started at as many as 348 booths across the constituency from 7 am, and it will continue till 6 pm today
