Bhubaneswar: Ollywood’s stand-up comedian Tatwa Prakash Satpathy aka Papu Pom Pom on Sunday joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) after meeting chief minister Naveen Patnaik at his residence here.
‘Papu Pom Pom, who is joining the BJD, will prove to be an asset for the party” BJD president and CM Naveen Patnaik said.
Apart from him, as many as 72 Congress members and some from BJP also joined the BJD today.
On joining the ruling party, the actor said his immense liking for the BJD has attracted him to be a part of it.
“I like BJD. The State has been progressing for last 14 years under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik. I had requested the honourable CM to include me in his party and he kept my request”, Papu said.
On a query whether he would contest in the ensuing assembly election, he said “I have not thought about that till now.”
Hailing from Mayurbhanj district, Papu started his film career with the movie ‘Pratham Prema’ in 2005 and has touched the heart of filmy fans across Odisha. In the recently concluded civic polls, he was seen canvassing for the BJD.
Few months back, Odia film industry’s matinee idol Anubhav Mohanty had joined the party. Mohanty, currently a member of BJD’s youth forum, had also involved himself in the party campaigning for the recently held urban elections.
