The annual bird counting at Chilika Lake began today. The counting of migratory birds is being conducted in five ranges under the Chilika wildlife division including Tangi, Balugaon, Rambha, Satapada and Chilika. The counting will be conducted by 21 teams comprising 111 wildlife officials, experts, volunteers and environmentalists. While 19 out of the 21 teams will conduct the counting on land, two teams are deployed in the water bodies for the annual census.

Apart from this, poultry samples from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) have also been sent to the Animal Disease Research Institute at Phulnakhara for tests as a precautionary measure.
