Odisha rolls out ‘Nirman Kusuma’ for construction workers’ children
Bhubaneswar: In a bid to encourage children of construction workers to pursue technical education, the State government today rolled out the ‘Nirman Kusuma’ programme to provide financial assistance to them.
After launching the programme Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the children of construction workers would get financial assistance for their education in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and polytechnics.
Patnaik added the government has already deposited Rs 1.09 crore in the bank accounts of beneficiaries of the programme.
Besides, the government has decided to increase the financial assistance by 20 per cent for girl students. Female students from standard sixth to post graduation level are being provided financial assistance, the CM informed.
While an ITI student will receive a financial assistance of Rs 23,600, a diploma student will get Rs 26,300 per annum. A total of 1,878 students will be benefitted under the programme, said sources.
Meanwhile, death benefits for construction workers have been doubled by the State government. Kin of construction workers, who were getting Rs 1 lakh as compensation, will now get Rs 2 lakh. Similarly, the accidental benefit has been doubled from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh.
