Bhubaneswar: Special drive by Odisha Police against illegal labour trafficking has gained momentum with the cops arresting 50 agents and middlemen following raids in several districts. So far 91 persons have been arrested from different parts of the State during the special drive by Odisha Police.

As per senior police officials, special raids were conducted in Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts and 50 agents and middlemen were arrested on the charges of trafficking labourers from these pockets to other parts of the State and Country.

Of the 50 arrests, 15 were made in Rayagada district, 21 in Nabarangpur and 14 in Kalahandi, official sources said. The nabbed persons are being interrogated to ascertain the forward and backward linkages.

“In our sustained drive against illegal labour trafficking, simultaneous drive launched last night in Raygada, Nabarangpur & Kalahandi dists. 50 agents & middlemen arrested in specific cases. Forward & backward linkages being investigated,” tweeted DGP BK Sharma.

Sharma said that such illegal trafficking has a large network in which people are outside Odisha and others work as sub-agents.
