Bhubaneswar: Odisha's Dr. Basant Kumar Mishra has been selected for the prestigious Dr. B C Roy Award (2017) instituted by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Mishra, who is presently leading the Department of Neurosurgery & Gamma Knife Radio surgery at Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai, will receive the award from the President of India.

Mishra is also the secretary of International Neurosurgeon Council.

Speaking to OTV, Mishra said that the award is recognition of his hard work.

"I am really feeling good as it is the highest medical award. This award is presented in different categories by the MCI and I have been adjudged in the topmost category. No one works for awards, but it feels good as an award is like recognition of all your hard work."

He further hailed the type of doctor-patient relationship seen in India and said there's a need to have cooperation between them."We need to do good work and there should be cooperation," he added.

It is worth mentioning that Mishra is son of eminent economist Baidyanath Mishra.
