Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday condoled the death of former Prime Minister I K Gujral who he termed as a brilliant diplomat. In a statement, Patnaik said Gujral's doctrine had helped India to develop a cordial relationship with neighbouring countries.

"The country lost a great statesman," he said.

Expressing his condolences to the members of the bereaved family, Chief Minister hoped peace for the departed soul.

Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh of Congress in Odisha Assembly described Gujral as an intellectual par excellence.

"His contribution to India's diplomatic relations with the neighbouring countries was conspicuous in 'Gujral Doctrine' of five principles," Singh said.
