Bhubaneswar: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a navratna PSU has posted a net profit of Rs 593 crore during 2012-13, compared to Rs 850 crore in last fiscal, due to reduced aluminium prices in London Metal Exchange and high input costs, the company said in its audited financial results.

The company however posted a net sales turnover of Rs 6809 crore this fiscal, up 4.75%, over Rs.6500 crore in the previous fiscal due to rise in sales which it attributed to higher production and sale of alumina.

Figures in the financial results show the company has produced 54.19 lakh tones of bauxite, against last fiscal’s 50.03 lakh tonnes. Similarly, the company’s alumina refinery has produced 18.02 lakh tonnes of alumina hydrate, against 16.87 lakh tonnes produced in 2011-12.

During the year, aluminium export by the company also increased to 1.44 lakh tonnes from 0.98 lakh tonnes in last financial year.

It stated the company’s metal production fell from 4.13 lakh tonnes to 4.03 lakh tonnes, due to shutdown of pot shells of the smelter. The net power generation by company’s captive power plant was 6,076 million units, it said.

In terms of sales, the company sold 9.85 lakh tonnes of alumina hydrate, compared to 8.43 lakh tonnes in 2011-12, the PSU said.
