Maoists release Italian tourist Claudio Colangelo

Bhubaneswar: The Maoists today afternoon released one Italian tourist Claudio Colangelo, held hostage since March 14. Top Naxal leader and Secretary of State Organising committee of CPI (Maoists) Sabyasachi Panda today handed over Claudio Colangelo to a group of media persons at the place in Kandhamal district from where the Italian nationals were kidnapped 11 days ago.

The government and two CPI (Maoists)-nominated negotiators had earlier held talks for three consecutive days for safe release of two Italians kidnapped by the ultras. However, the talks were suspended yesterday after the kidnapping of Laxmipur MLA Jhina Hikaka. The two negotiators had appealed to the rebels to release the three hostages for further negotiations with the govt.

While releasing Claudio Colangelo, Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda said that the release of the Italian national must sent some positive signals to the government to continue dialogues with the negotiators. Sabyasachi reiterated that the Maoists would release the other Italian national Paolo Bosusco on the fulfillment of 13 demands put forth by the CPI (Maoists)
