Dhenkanal: The samiti member of Dhirpatna panchayat has alleged that the district president of the BJP Krushak Morcha has kidnapped her husband and threatened with dire consequences over phone unless she votes in favour of the BJP in the election for the post of block chairman. The samiti member has lodged her complaint in the police station and submitted an audio CD of the threatening call to the district superintendent of police.

The newly elected samiti member of Dhirpatna panchayat, Pranati Baral, has alleged that BJD leader of Dhenkanal district, Ramchandra Patra, threatened her over the mobile set. Pranati has alleged that her husband Sushant has been held captive by BJP leader Ramchandra. Pranati complained that Ramchandra had been threatening her to vote for Khan Zulfat Ali, an aspirant for the post of block chairman. Ramchandra first threatened Sushant`s friend Kanhu Charan over his mobile phone, alleged Pranati.

Pranati called a press conference in Bhubaneswar in this connection. The Dhenkanal Sadar MLA Navin Nanda was also present in the press conference. Talking to the media Pranati said that some unidentified persons abducted her husband in a numberless Indica car while Sushant and his friend Kanhu Charan were going to Dhenkanal block on February 21. Prananti alleged that though she  lodged her complaint first in the Dhenkanal Town police station and then in the Sadar police station, both the police stations did not register her complaint on the plea that the incident did not take place in their jurisdictions.

However, the district superintendent of police, Satish Gajbhiye denied that the police has not received any such complaint. On the other hand, BJP leader Ramchandra Patra, in his reaction said that the allegations were baseless. He said that even Dhenkanal Sadar MLA Navin Nanda was making baseless allegations against him.

Intense lobbying has been going on among the political parties to capture the Dhenkanal block. The latest incident was a fall out of the attempt by the political parties to gain the support of panchayat samiti members.
