Tusker tramples man in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: In a tragic incident, a man was trampled to death by a wild tusker in Patala village under Champua forest range of the district on Thursday night.

Sources said the incident occurred when the deceased, identified as Sudur Naik, was watching the elephant outside his house.

Meanwhile, locals staged a blockade by placing the body on Champua-Rimuli road demanding adequate compensation for the family of the victim.

As pachyderms had been frequenting the village and causing damages to crops and properties, the demonstrators also asked for a permanent solution to the menace.

Till the last report came in, the jumbo along with its herd was still roaming in a forest adjacent to the village, triggering fear among the villagers who have preferred to remain indoors even in day time.
