Illegal houses on govt land razed at Haldipadia slum in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Around six houses that were illegally constructed on government land at Haldipadia slum were razed to ground in a special drive undertaken by the joint enforcement squad of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday.

All the unauthorized constructions were demolished amidst tight security arrangements by Commissionerate Police.
The authorities reportedly swung into action following allegations that narcotics trade was being operated from all the unauthorized houses in the slum.

“As per the decision of the Central Enforcement Monitoring Committee, six unauthroised constructions were demolished,” said BDA enforcement official, Pramod Patra.

It is pertinent to mention here that a few days back, Khurda administration had launched a special drive and demolished around 30 rooms of drugs mafia, Subhranshu Parida alias Chhota.

“We welcome such eviction drive. The authorities should also launch an investigation about the persons staying here who have bank deposits of over Rs 25 to 70 lakhs. We don’t see them engaged in any work, how can they earn so much money,”questioned Rama Singh, a slum dweller.
